FaxTalk Fax Merge » for Microsoft Word 2013/2010/2007
FaxTalk appears on Microsoft Word ribbon or toolbar but does not run and displays the message "The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings…."
You are using Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office 2010 and the FaxTalk Fax Merge for Microsoft Word fails to run. You have confirmed that your security settings are properly configured, however the macro does not run. You see the following error message when you attempt to activate the macro.
“The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings….”
or
"Automation Error: Unspecified error"
NOTE: If you are using Microsoft Office 2010, verify the version you are using is the 32 bit edition of Microsoft Office 2010. The FaxTalk Fax Merge add-on is not compatible with the 64 bit version of Microsoft Office (the default and recommended installation of Microsoft Office 2010 is 32 bit on all Windows operating systems, including 64 bit Microsoft Windows).
If you have determined that this error is not due to any configuration settings, then you may need to delete some temporary .exd files to correct this issue.
- Close Microsoft Word (and any other Microsoft Office product)
- Click Start, and Run (or click the Windows orb and in the search field) then type
%APPDATA%\MICROSOFT\FORMS
and click OK. This will open the folder where these .exd files are located. - Locate any files with .exd extension and delete them. These are temporary files will be recreated as needed by Microsoft Office when required. Do not delete any other files in this folder.
- Restart Microsoft Word and check to see if the FaxTalk Fax Merge add-on is installed.
NOTE: This fix may not apply to “Click-To-Run” versions of Office 2010. Microsoft has acknowledged that some third party add-ins and templates will not function properly with “Click-To-Run” versions of Office 2010.
If the above steps does not correct the problem, you may need to apply a fix from Microsoft due to an known issue with a Microsoft Office Security Update that was released on August 14th, 2012. This update is known to cause problems with third-party Microsoft Office component add-ins.
Check your Microsoft Windows Update history (View Update History from Windows Update) to determine if you have installed one or more of the following Microsoft Security updates:
- Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2687441) (MS12-060)
- Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 suites (KB2597986) (MS12-060)
- Security Update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB2687323) (MS12-60) and (KB2726929 Update here)
Any one of these security updates have been known to cause third-party add-ins for Microsoft Office to fail because a required file that is updated "MSCOMCTL.OCX" is not registered properly by the Windows update.
Microsoft has released a "FIX IT FOR ME" update file to correct this problem. You do not have to remove, or reinstall any of the above security updates. A fix has been released from Microsoft (Scroll down to the "FIX IT FOR ME" sections of the appropriate Microsoft KB documents)
