    How do you delete phonebooks that state:

    “Unable to delete the selected phonebook. The phonebook is open or locked.”

    Need to get rid of some that I was testing for faxing groups.

    Thanks.

    what kind of phonebook is it? was it imported, linked etc.?
    are any associated applications running in the background when you try to delete it in WinFax?
    its possible another application is linking to the same files, causing the failure to delete the phonebook in WinFax.

    Click on the phonebook name entry in WinFax, then click FILE, PROPERTIES. This should show the complete path/filename of the phonebook.

    It was imported from HotFax 5.0 to WinFax 10.03. I then saved it to documents in Word and imported back into another phonebook application.

    I mean, it works perfectly, but I now have 2 entries of the same phonebook, under different names and want to delete one of them.

    I have looked at the properties and get the following:

    C:Program FilesWinFaxDataMY-PH-BK

    There are approximately 5-6 entries with different extensions listed and I don’t want to screw up this installation by removing the incorrect files.

    Thanks.

    Those are the properties of the main WinFax phonebook file, the one that it creates by default. Did you create a new phonebook and then import the numbers, or import the data into the default phonebook?

    I’m not sure exactly what you are describing, because “my-ph-bk” has several files in the data directory, and they all make up one single phonebook. If you have another phonebook, it can’t use the same name “my-ph-bk”.

    I guess its possible for you have two “My Phonebook” entries that point to the same phonebook, that shouldn’t be there. Is that was is happening?

    I would say that I have 2 phonebooks.

    I’m still at the point that I don’t know how to delete the one as described above.

    Thanks.

    Assuming you have two phonebooks that point to the same data files,

    1. Exit all active applications including WinFax.
    2. Start REGEDIT (click on START, RUN and type REGEDIT.)
    2. Locate the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREDelrinaCommSuite7.0Phonebooks

    REGEDIT uses a TREE structure. You’ll have to click on each folder until
    you are in the “PhoneBooks” location.

    Here you’ll find a list of your active phonebooks. Click on the phonebook
    folder you wish to remove, and press the DELETE key to remove it.

    Here is an example of what the contents of the folder “My Phonebook” in the registy contains on my PC.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREDelrinaCommSuite7.0PhonebooksMy Phonebook]
    "Path"="C:\Program Files\Symantec\TalkWorks\Data\MY-PH-BK"
    "Comment"="TalkWorks PRO Phonebook - My Phonebook"
    "Type"=dword:00000011
    "GUID"=hex:a8,12,3b,3b,39,ef,55,40,91,f6,66,91,a5,9f,c8,ce
    "Read Only"=dword:00000000
    "Existing"=dword:00000000
    "Pending Deletion"=dword:00000000

    Path = the path / filename structure of the phonebook files. There are twelve files associated with each phonebook in WinFax PRO. The file names are derived from the name of the phonebook. These files are created when the phonebook is created. For example, the file names for a phonebook called TEST will be:

    TEST.WFB
    TEST.WFD
    TEST.WFX
    TEST.WFF
    TEST.WFR
    TEST.WFG
    TESTS.WFD
    TESTS.WFG
    TESTS.WFX
    TEST2.WFD
    TEST2.WFX
    TEST2.WFG

    😀

    This was great. Worked perfectly and deleted the phonebook.

    Your instructions were perfect and hopefully WinFax PRO will keep running flawlessly.

    It would be great for a third party to take over the support for upgrades, etc.

    Thanks.
