Windows XP, Office XP, both with all patches applied and Winfax 10.02

    wfword2k.dot is in C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10Startup

When I open word I get a dialog box with the following:

“Microsoft Word can’t display the template used in this document.
Microsoft word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605.
This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.”

Without wfword2k.dot in the startup folder, Word opens with no problems.

Microsoft Knowledge Base article 323217 discusses this and its solution would result in deletion of the wfword2k.dot macro!

I really need a fix for this. ???

Do you know if your installation of Word has the appropriate Visual Basic files installed? Have you tried reinstalling Word, ensuring all options have been installed?

I’ve run the repair facility in Office (from add/remove programs->change). All possible options are installed. Not sure how to answer your question about VB, but the VB editor is available off the Tools->Macros menu. I haven’t found any explanation of what these error messages mean.

Can you successfully record a macro? Have you tried using Symantec’s macro that was included with WinFax?
