MemberI have a newly installed machine with Win 7, Outlook 2010 RTM, Winfax 10.02
I was able to install Winfax without error, so the file extension association shouldl work properly, and indeed I am able to open FXM files by double click from any location in the file system. BUT:
When I double click on a mail, containing an FXM file (for example forwarded mail out of a Winfax server) I get the error “An error occured when reading the image file” (I translated it from German, my Winfax version is a German one). Quite annoying because I need this several times a day. If I drop the file to the desktop and double click from there it works fine (so it cannot be a real damage in the file itself).
What could be the reason? Is it due to the OUtlook version? Or did you know this kind of issues before, too? And most of all: How can I solve it? Thanks for help!May 25, 2010 at 6:22 pm #8873JohnD
ParticipantI don’t think this is a problem with WinFax, since you can open the FXM file outside of Outlook once it is saved. Outlook 2010 downloads the FXM file into a temporary folder location, called the Outlook Secure Temporary Folder, so I am guessing the failure is reading this file from this location.
You should look at this registry key to determine where your Outlook 2010 Secure Temporary folder is located.
