In Windows XP the Message Manager icon disappeared from the Notification Area of the Taskbar, although from Task Manager it was apparent that WFXMOD32.exe was running. What is the best way to restore the icon? Winfax Pro and another programme share the 56k Fax Modem. I need to be able to conveniently turn off Automatic Receive to run certain operations in the other programme.

    TIA

the controller that appears in the notification area is “wfxctl32.exe” and if that is not running, and you have wfxmod32.exe active, then you have some sort of failure. You’ll need to start “wfxctl32.exe” first. Once you have it in the notification area, you can right-click and turn auto-receive on/off or setup WinFax using the tools from the Controller.
