i started at 63 percent used on send slots. after delteing faxes in the data i have got it down to 2 percent. receive slots were at 9 percent and have remained unchanged. I have deleted received faxes in winfax. how do I delete/open up more receive slots?
it is the same process, but the filename would have a .fxr extension (example 3452001.fxr, 3452002.fxr …)
December 29, 2010 at 10:16 pm #9051paulcarterParticipantI keep forgetting to say thanks for helping me make heads or tails troubleshooting this. working on creating more slots I stumbled across a file: WF NOTIFY WAY. it appears to be a media player. what is this and what does it do and do I need it?

wfnotify.wav is a (wave) sound file that is used by WinFax when you receive a fax. I believe it is the trumpet sound, or similar type of sound to indicate you’ve received a fax. You probably don’t need it, but I would leave it as is.
December 30, 2010 at 1:02 am #9053paulcarterParticipantI have got send lots down to 2 percent and receive slots at 9 percent. Am I good on slot cituation? Also discovered winfax is having problem receiving more than 10-14 pages. it cuts off last page and does not receive the rest. How do I correct this?
December 30, 2010 at 3:23 am #9054AdministratorKeymasterDo you have anti-virus or screensavers that may activate after a period of inactivity? receiving 10+ pages usually would take 10-15 minutes and if you have a screensaver or power saving feature activate while it is receiving, it may cause the receiving fax to fail. I also recommend performing a disk defrag in Windows 2000 to optimize the system performance.
December 30, 2010 at 4:40 am #9055paulcarterParticipantI uninstalled antivirus prior to having trouble receing 10 or more pages. The windows 2000 computer just for Winfaxpro(Internet on newer computer). I dont believe it was screensaver( I was using computer when faxes came ) but I changed it to make sure. I have spyware and registry repair program, if you need additional info on them let me know. Should I uninstall them and/Or Where do you suggest I should also troubleshoot?
January 3, 2011 at 3:32 am #9056AdministratorKeymasterYou should check the Task Manager and the CPU Usage (it will vary from 1% – 100%) , the lower , the better. Check to see what percentage it is at when receiving faxes. Software modems will use more of the CPU – which can lead to greater chance of failure. To open the Task Manager, you can click on “Task Manager” button in WinFax Tools.
January 3, 2011 at 10:00 pm #9057paulcarterParticipantwhen receiving cpu reads 0 to 2 percent. have noticed opening program setup cpu reads 100 percent for a second or 2 before droping down to 0 to 5 percent. IS THIS NORMAL?
(Also receive and send jump to 30 for sec. or 2 on cpu before dropping to 0 to 2 percent yet the phonebook which has more logs only jumps to 15 percent when clicking to the folder.
QUESTION 2:
I dont know if this next is related to receiving problem but observed receive log missing received faxes in receive log, I click another folder like send log then click receive log again and the missing receive faxes not showing before reappears.January 3, 2011 at 10:22 pm #9058paulcarterParticipantTo add to last post I noticed when sending faxes cpu jumps to 100 percent for second or two then under 10 percent. Had no complaint or problem sending faxes, just receiving them.

High CPU usage for long period of time would cause a problem.
Missing images (thumbnails) in the preview pane, or missing log entries in your receive log?
January 4, 2011 at 8:34 pm #9060paulcarterParticipantMissing thumbnails or old received faxes dont show but will reappear if you click another folder then click back to folder then you see them. this is not first time happened. A First time yestaurday I received winfax warning to disable winfax NT service. when I go to do it it was disabled. computer friend say reboot it first. in short I rebooted then started NT service then disabled and stoped it followed by reconfigured modem settings and rebooted system again. Thumbnails appear showing now. NT warning has not shown back yet. The Number of rings to answer yestaurday changed on its own as well. I am confused why winfax just change its settings on its own.
January 5, 2011 at 4:50 am #9061AdministratorKeymasterSettings should not change on their own unless you logged on as a different user name in WIndows login, or for some reason the registry settings specific to WinFax were corrupt or missing and new keys were created and reverted to default settings. The NT service message can appear if you remove a modem or alter a modem in WinFax or Windows.
If you have large amount of pages in a single fax, then thumbnails will take some time to generate and be displayed in the preview window. Depending on CPU speed & disk access times this can take some time and is does not get displayed in time the first time you click on the fax entry. If you are missing fax log events then there is a problem the log structure which would require a rebuild in WinFax Tools (Logs & Phonebooks, Rebuild Logs .. option)
http://www.getfaxing.com/winfax/?s=rebuildJanuary 5, 2011 at 8:48 pm #9062paulcarterParticipantI was missing log events in receive log. I rebuilt phonebooks and logs with winfax tools and now that part is ok today.
About NT warning. I am only user on computer. I did for a day change modem from class 1 to class 2.0 when again I had trouble receiving faxes. I get it to receive ok on class 1 for couple days then problem starts up again receiving.January 5, 2011 at 9:48 pm #9063paulcarterParticipantAfter posting last reply fixing missing logs the receive folder started missing old logs again in less than 1 hour. Twice in 1 day I had to rebuild phonebook and logs.I will try to find out what I did to start creating missing logs and let you know if I come up with anything.
January 5, 2011 at 10:21 pm #9064paulcarterParticipantI now know how to create the problem in receive folder is loseing logs but dont know how to stop it. everytime I click receive arrow down to show other folders then close it using the arrow that points to the right(looks like a thumbtack) to get bigger view of receive folder it loses 1 old log. The more times you click thumbtack the more it loses. How do I stop it or fix it?
