February 12, 2003 at 5:38 am #6678JohnDParticipanthave you removed the registry key entries ?
what type of modem are you using? does this happen before WinFax tries to detect the modem?
what version of WinFax?February 12, 2003 at 8:20 am #6679mellenMemberThank you for your reaction, John.
I have complete delete Winfax 10.0 and cleanup all the registry. When I try in program setup fill in the “name” and “compagny” there is no problem but when I try to fill te field for “Fax and Voice number” I get the error message.
These problem I also have by change the field “answer after” rings.
The problem appears after the (correct) modem detection by Winfax. I am using a Smartlink 56k modem. Can you help me to correct this?
Thank you!!!

after you install and get the error message, reboot and run the file UPDREG.BAT in your WinFax directory.
Then run the WTNSETUP.EXE file in the WinFax directory and see if the same error occurs.
You can also try running SETUPDCC.EXE and manually set options here (modem, dialing settings etc.)

I have try all option you give me, but I still get the same error:
a small window with the titel “WinfaxPRO program setup”
a red button with a white cross on the left site and the error message “A General Protect Fault/Exception Has Occured”.It is not possible to fill in the fax or phone number.

February 19, 2003 at 3:53 am #6683JohnDParticipantHi,
there should be a module name with the error message. If not, what other programs have you running in the background? Have you tried installing WinFax in SAFE mode ??1. Cancel the installation
2. Verify that Windows is set to show all files.
3. Create a temporary folder on the C drive, such as C:wfx.
4. Copy the WinFax folder from the WinFax CD to the C:wfx folder.
5. Restart the computer in Safe mode.
6. Delete Temp Files
7. Delete the WinFax folder that was created during the failed installation.
8. Run the Setup program.Check this link for details on starting Windows in safe mode and installing WinFax in safe mode.

February 20, 2003 at 1:56 am #6685JohnDParticipantOk, now that we have a descriptive error message, we can try this :
(Windows 2000/Windows XP)
1. Exit the installation. Reboot system (do not start in Safe Mode)
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click Services.
4. Double-click the Print Spooler service, change the Startup type to Automatic, and then click Start. The Spooler service is started.
5. Click OK, close the Services window, and then close the Control Panel.
6. Shut down and restart the computer.
7. Restart the installation of WinFax PRO.February 21, 2003 at 10:28 pm #6686mellenMember@JohnD wrote:

February 22, 2003 at 2:52 am #6687JohnDParticipantDo you have any printers installed on this PC? Is it WIndows 2000 or Windows XP?
try installing a HP Laserjet printer (even if you don’t have one!) from the Control Panel/Printers icon.
once you’ve installed the printer driver, try installing WinFax again.February 23, 2003 at 1:03 pm #6688mellenMember@JohnD wrote:

February 24, 2003 at 4:11 am #6689JohnDParticipantis winfax pro 10.0 the english version, and windows xp english version?

Yes WinFax 10.0 is the English version, but Windows XP is the Dutch version.
February 26, 2003 at 11:35 pm #6691AnonymousMemberI know Symantec never tested WinFax PRO 10.0 with Windows XP, so I’m thinking this could be a problem with incompatibility with Windows XP dutch version. If you can get version 10.02 (which is supposed to be XP compatible) you can try that. Otherwise, I think the problem is the Windows XP Dutch version.
