MemberCan anyone tell me how to uninstall WFP 10.03? I’m running Win XP SP3. WFP is in Start/Programs list, but will not uninstall using Control Panel (Add or Remove ProgramsSymantec WinFax PROChange/Remove). This error msg displayed: The log file ‘C:Program FilesWinFaxWFXUNIST.ISU’ is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue.’ I downloaded and ran the Symantec Uninstaller which turns out to not have WFP in the list of programs it will remove. I really want this program to be gone.

MemberTry system restore, restore to the state before you attempted uninstallation that failed but deleted WFXUNIST.ISU
You can also try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 – but it will leave all files etc intact, so you’ll have to uninstall them manually.

ParticipantWinFax doesn’t use Windows installer, it uses Install Shield for the installation setup, the link to microsoft will not remove any WinFax files or the Add/Remove entry for non-Windows installer applications.
There is a tool Symantec released called Symclean that will remove WinFax files.
Is that what you have used?

MemberThank you for help that I can understand. No, the tool you mentioned is not the one I used; I used Norton_Removal_Tool.exe. Even though I followed the “product” through the support process, when I had the recommend program downloaded, installed, and running, there was no choice among those listed to remove WFP.

MemberI have tried several times to reach the Symantec site to download SYMClean:
(ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/norton_systemworks/ver5.0/tools/SYMCLN.EXE),
but I consistantly get an “Internet Explorer cannot display the website” page. How can I find and download SYMClean?

Participantfor that link, change SYMCLN.EXE to SYMCLEAN.EXE
update: i checked the links and documents that Symantec has listed for using Symclean and the Norton_Removal_Tool.
1. Norton_Removal_Tool doesn’t remove WinFax. In fact, it won’t even allow you to remove all those Norton products it claims to uninstall until you uninstall WinFax. Which to me, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. WinFax was never a “Norton” product and there is no reason why someone should be forced to uninstall WinFax to clean another completely unrelated product.
2. SymClean that is listed on WinFax support document is linked to the wrong file. The document links to SYMCLN.EXE which does not exist. (Should be SYMCLEAN.EXE)
3. The SymClean file has been updated sinced the last time I tested it. When I tested

Tr y this as it should allow you to reinstall WinFax;
Download WinFax Tools.
Click Install & Setup Tools
Click Delete Install Entry.
Click Yes to remove install entry. You can now attempt to reinstall WinFax PRO.
If you need to UNINSTALL WinFax, once you have completed the reinstall of WinFax (and rebooted the computer)
you can then perform an uninstall from Add/Remove Programs after the installation is complete. -
