I have Winfax 10.0 and whenever I select the Winfax Printer Driver (to print to the program so I can send it as a fax), my computer completely crashes. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is there a patch to take it from 10.0 to 10.02 or 10.03? Thanks for any help.

I have included my HijackThis Log for any suggestions.

I suggest you remove Configuration Wizard from your startup group, as listed in your Hijack log:

    O4 – Global Startup: Configuration Wizard.lnk = C:Program FilesSymantecWinFaxWTNSETUP.EXE

and then run WTNSETUP.EXE from your WinFax directory.

Reboot and try again, if that fails
then run INSPRINT.EXE from the WinFax directory, and then try again.

there is no 10.0 to 10.02 or 10.03 update.

    Mod,

I tried your suggestions and I am now able to use the WinFax printer driver. However, whenever I try to use WinFax (Photo Quality) as the driver, it crashes the system as before.

Is there any major difference between WinFax and WinFax (Photo Quality)? Any suggestions to get the other one working?

    Thanks for all your help.

You can try removing the printer WinFax (Photo Quality) from the Printers in the Control Panel, and then run INSPRINT.EXE again to see if it recreates the WinFax Photo Quality printer driver.

You can still use WinFax only with the regular printer driver, the Photo Quality driver does a better job with graphic images.

I ran INSPRINT and it did regenerate the WinFax (Photo Quality) print driver, but again it crashes my computer.

And this is just from trying to print a test page. I’ve also tried actually printing to the driver. In both cases, it causes the computer to crash.

From Control Panel, Printers, WinFax (Photo Quality), Properties…

What port is WinFax (Photo Quality) set to? Make sure it is the same port as the WinFax printer driver, usually, this port should be set to FaxModem.

Also try starting the WinFax PRO Controller first before printing a test page…the yellow icon should appear in the system tray.

The port for WinFax is set to FaxModem.
The port for WinFax (Photo Quality) is set to FaxModem (Photo Quality)

Seems like the same port to me.

I’ll try starting the Controller and see what happens.

Unfortunately it is still crashing, even when I have started the Controller

You might want to try disabling some of the anti-virus or any other applications that may be running at startup to test if there is a conflict with another application.

also, you can try to do an uninstall of WinFax from Add/Remove Programs, and then try reinstalling again.

How do I disable things at startup?

I’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice. So there must be a conflict somewhere.

the port is FaxModem (Photo Quality) or just FaxModem?
    it should be FaxModem

I would suggest contacting our Live Support Services to examine your system if you still have problems. Details at http://www.getfaxing.com/services.htm
