Will Winfax 10.03 still function at all if I install Office 2007 on my XP Pro? Microsoft says Outlook will disable Winfax, can it be re-abled?

You can install Outlook 2007, it won’t disable WinFax, but if you want to use your Outlook contacts as a WinFax Phonebook, they will not appear.

Thats good news, strange the Microsoft claims Winfax will be disabled or even uninstalled.

Assuming Winfax will still work, how do you best preserve the Act phone book as Act no longer supports WF either?

That statement is a little misleading, and should read “WinFax Starter Edition — an earlier faxing program…”
This is refering to a program called “WinFax Starter Edition” , or often called “WinFax SE”, that was included as a free bundle with Outlook 98 and 2000. It was a basic version of WinFax that was part of a Microsoft/Symantec bundle deal about 10 years ago. It does not apply to WinFax PRO editions. So yes, if you were using WinFax SE with Outlook 2000 or 98, and you upgrade to Outlook 2007, you will lose WinFax SE.

As for the ACT! phonebook, the only versions of ACT! that will appear as a “direct” phonebook link in WinFax PRO 10 are ACT! 6.0x, 5.0x and 4.0x.

If you’re upgrading ACT! to another version, you’ll lose the ACT! phonebook access in WinFax.

Is there a way to maintain or copy the data from an Act 6 phone book so Winfax can use it when Act 6 gets updated and is not longer available? I realize it would be a static phone book but it would be better than no phone book.

There is a program that integrates newer versions of ACT! with WinFax PRO 10.03, it’s called FaxAdmin. It does allow you to select your ACT! contacts for faxing, but doesn’t give you the ACT! phonebook in WinFax. It does allow for fax blasting (fax merge) within ACT!

As for having a static phonebook, you could export your current ACT! database to a comma seperated file (CSV) and then import it into WinFax.
