Winfax 10.4 uses a US Robotics 56K modem. It can properly communicate with the modem, is able to send faxes but can not automatically receive faxes.
When a fax comes in, it picks up the line, you can see the status go to ‘training’, next a pop up appears, ‘Cannot open the data file: incorrect file name or ‘. There is a button that allows you to scroll down in the error message but there is nothing there.
Has anyone seen this before?
Yes, the full error message is “Cannot open the data file: incorrect file name or file not exists.”
The receive file isn’t being created, so either you have a problem writing to the folder where your received faxes are stored (permission problem, hardware problem etc.) OR you’ve run out of receive slots in your DATA folder. Our support tool with a premium subscription , WinFax Tools, can check your DATA folder to see if you’ve reached the limit of received faxes in your DATA folder. Another possibility would be a corrupt log file which would require a rebuild on the logs.
