When sending a fax, the header line prints with the wingding font, which cannot be read. The quick cover page is also set to the wingding font, and I cannot find the place to change the fonts for these areas.

    Thanks.

This was a major bug in WinFax. There was a quick cover page replacement that you could download that really just prevented the problem (not a real fix)

I don’t believe this was ever fixed:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/faxprod.nsf/2000032716595604

(the part about changing video display drivers is useless, don’t even bother with that)

    Situation:
When you type in the Fill-in box on a cover page, the font is not being displayed correctly.

    Solution:
Please test after completing each section to see if the problem is resolved. If the problem persists, continue to the next section for another resolution.

Open, then resave the cover page

    1. In Message Manager, click Go, and click Cover Pages.
    2. Double-click the affected cover page. The Cover Page Designer window appears.
    3. Click File, and click Save As. The Save As window appears.
    4. Click Save. You will be notified that the file already exists and would you like to replace it.
    5. Click Yes. The document will be saved.
    6. Exit the Cover Page Designer.
    7. Repeat these steps for each cover page you are having problems with.

NOTE: This procedure will not work with the Quick Cover Page.

If you continue experiencing difficulties, try disabling Adobe Type Manager 4.0 if you have installed it.

Make sure that the correct fonts are being used in Windows
    1. Click Start, and click Run.
    2. In the Open field, type win.ini and press Enter. The Notepad window appears.
    3. Locate the [FontSubstitutes] section.
    4. Make sure that the [FontSubstitutes] section contains the following lines:

    Helv=MS Sans Serif
    Tms Rmn=MS Serif
    Times=Times New Roman
    Helvetica=Arial
    MS Shell Dlg=MS Sans Serif

    Add any missing lines.
    5. If you have made changes, save the file by clicking File, and clicking Save.
    6. Close Notepad and restart the system for the changes to take effect.

If you continue experiencing difficulties, you may not have the required font installed in Windows. If you do not know which font is missing, try installing all of the fonts described here. Please refer to the Microsoft Windows on-line help for further assistance.

Change the video driver to Standard VGA

To see if the problem is related to the video driver in use, change the video driver to Standard VGA. Follow the instructions for the version of Windows you are running:

    Windows 98

    1. Click Start, and click Run.
    2. Type msconfig and click OK.
    3. Click Advanced.
    4. Check the VGA 640x480x16 option, and click OK.
    5. Click OK again to restart the computer in Standard VGA mode.

If you experience no further difficulties using Standard VGA, contact the video card manufacturer to obtain an updated video display driver. Then repeat the process to return to the normal video settings, but this time uncheck VGA 640x480x16.

    Windows 95

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.
    2. Double-click Display. The Display Properties dialog box appears.
    3. Click the Settings tab, and click Change display type. If you are using Windows 95b or OSR2, click Advanced Properties instead.
    4. Write down the current display type.
    5. Click Change in the Adapter Type group box, or, for Windows 95b, just click Change. The Select Device dialog box will appear.
    6. Click Show all devices.
    7. Select Standard Display Types from the Manufacturers list.
    8. Select Standard Display Adapter (VGA) from the Models list.
    9. Click OK, and restart the computer.

If you experience no further difficulties using Standard VGA, contact the video card manufacturer to obtain an updated video display driver. Then reopen Display Properties, and change the adapter type back to its original setting.

    Windows NT

    1. Exit all open programs.
    2. Click Start, and click Shut Down.
    3. Select Restart the Computer, and click Yes.
    4. After restarting the computer, select “Windows NT [VGA mode]” and let the system start normally.

If you experience no further difficulties using Standard VGA, contact the video card manufacturer to obtain an updated video display driver. Then reopen Display Properties, and change the adapter type back to its original setting.

    Situation:
You are using the Quick Cover page. When you preview the cover page before sending, you notice that the font in the header is garbled.

    Solution:
Symantec is aware of this problem. Currently, there is no known solution.
Under Windows 95, this problem is caused by downloading and installing the Windows Euro update.

As a workaround, download and use an alternate Quick Cover page.

To download the alternate Quick Cover page:
Download the file quickcp2.cvp and save it to the into the WinFaxCover folder.
You can also download this file from the WinFax PRO 10 Downloads page at :

    http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/winfax/winfax10.html

To add the downloaded cover page to the Cover Pages list:

    1. In the WinFax PRO Message Manager, click Go, and then click Cover Pages.
    2. Select the folder that you want to add this cover page to.
    3. Click New, and then click Cover page.
    4. Select Add an existing cover page file (.CVP), and then click OK.
    5. Locate and select the downloaded quickcp2.cvp file.
    6. In the Description field, enter a description for this cover page, and then click Open. The cover page is added to the folder.

NOTE: This cover page is now selected as the default cover page.

To clear the header fields in WinFax PRO:
NOTE: The header fields are cleared because the new cover page has variable header information that is pulled from the owner’s phone book entry.

    1. In the WinFax PRO Program Setup, double-click Send.
    2. Click the Header tab, and delete everything from the Left, Center and Right fields.
    3. Click OK, and then click Close.
