This needs to go to everyone as the fix. We could not get my laptop to work yesterday, but got my Winfax working again on my desktop so I could get invoices out. The session lasted a looooong time. Anyway, I had installed Norton Cleansweep when along with my other programs. I also had Norton Antivirus and Spyware loaded that came with my ATT Yahoo Internet service. Well, once I uninstalled Winfax, again and uninstalled all the other Symantec stuff I reinstalled Winfax, and guess what, it now works fine on my laptop. I can now install the other Symantec programs and it should all work fine, just like on my desktop. Oh, but the download on get faxing to fix the CSID problem still doesnt work. I can not put in my phone # on Winfax. I have not installed any Symantec programs yet, so that is not the cause. It works so I can live without that. Thanks for all your help.

I have wasted most of my free time this week trying to get Winfax to work on my laptop. And now because there was a fix for the CSID, I tried to fix Winfax on my desktop. Now after doing everything by the book it still won’t work on my laptop and no longer works on my desktop. I’m about to give up. Is there any other fax programs similar or as good as Winfax? I loved it, but with all the computer & software upgrades it is making it impossible for it run properly.

So far installing Winfax in normal mode, or clean mode has not worked. I got the same error messages as on my first posts. I will now try safe mode.

according to the winfax pro tools the version is still 10.0.
While I am dealing with my desktop I decided to remove Winfax from the laptop. Nothing seemed to work. I am trying to reinstall it and go through the steps again.

I signed up for the premium forum so I could download some fixes. I thought, hey this should be good for my main computer too, since the same issue with the Tele # was happing. Well, after installing the upgrade from 10.0 to 10.01 and the wintools and doing the fix entry my program on the main computer doesnt work. I went to start the program and the error pops up, FAXMNG32.
EXE – Unabel to Locate Component. “This applicaation has failed to start because dccutili.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem”. I don’t want to loose the logs I have. I have a lot of sent & received faxes that I need to keep. Now what?

I had to go into safe mode to reinstall. The install seemed to be going good but at the end an error came up, “Winfax print processor install failed,
Error code ->1722. I then clicked ok and it tried to install it again, but failed. I clicked ok again and then it said “The Winfax printer add failed, Error code ->1722 Printername=Winfax. I click ok and then it seems to be installing. But at the end it gives me the message that the spooler has not started. Then the CSID window comes up and I go to put in the fax number and the program shuts down. I will look at previous messages to go over these again.

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier, but business got a little crazy. Ok, I was able to rename the data folder to dataold. Now when Winfax starts up the verifying database windown pops up, but then right after the error pops up “An error was found when examing the database. Do you want to attempt to fix it?” When I click on yes the error pops up ” A General Protection fault has occured. The program will shut down. Please restart”.

I have the WINFax Pro 10.0.

I went to change the Data folder to Dataold and the error came up. “Cannot rename Data Access is denied”
“Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use”.

I did not have Winfax open when I tried to change it.

Alright, I was able to get the modem assigned. I restarted windows and now when I open winfax a message comes up “The following error occured when attempting to open a folder. “No access” A system error occured. That device is write protected. I click ok and open tools to look at the modem that was just installed another error comes up. “A Gemeral Protect Fault/Exception has occured. I have a feeling this is going to take awhile. Is it bett to upgrade to 10.3, purchase online? Or would i have the same problems.

thanks for your help. after i put in the CSID and tab or click down to put in the fax number or phone number the install screen closes with no warnings or error messages. its frustrating, i’m so close to getting it to work. Also my modem is not listed in the choices under tool, modem properties. It also said once that the spooler was not working or installed. any options left?

ok. the only way i could load winfax is on safe mode. now that its loaded, when i go to open it up it says “the following error occured when attempting to open a folder. “no access” A system error occured. that drive is write protected”. I then clik ok. Then I go to tools to get into set up to configure the modem. Another error comes up “A general protect fault/exception has occured”. Any ideas on this? Thank you for the help so far. At least its loaded now. It just needs to be tweeked a bit so I can use it.

I tried to load it again and this is what happened.
At start copying files the first error reads,
Uninstaller failed to initialize. You may not be able to uninstall this product. I then click OK.
Second error. Error occured while copying files: component:progra~1symantecwinfaxfax.AVI Error number: -115. I then click ok.
Third error. An error occured during the move data process:~-115. I click ok, then the install screen is gone. Any ideas? I do have the SP3 loaded onto the new laptop, a Dell Vostro 1700 with XP now. If I can get this to work it would be great.
