Both the options were enabled and I have disenabled them. As this problem only occurs about once or twice a year it will be some time before I can judged whether it has been overcome. But I am optimistic. Thanks.

I tried Live Chat and, after some connection hickups, **** was able to fix this problem. Thanks.

I think each year has a message store (with folders for in, out, w/b).
For each year the data directory shows WFX, WFG, WFB and WFD files. There also seem to be DMP files – possibly related to my use of the maintenance tools.
Using 2007 as an example, the following files exist:old20073.WFX,WFG,WFD
    Old2007s.WFX,WFG,WFD
    Old2007.WFX,WFG,WFF,WFD,DMP,WFR,WFB
    Old20072.WFX,WFG,WFX
The above in the order in which they appear.

Similar for each year from 2000.
But all stores get the same error message (except the current one which seems OK)

I have this problem too. Winfax continues to be in receiving message mode until I take an axe to it. My fix is to open a new message folder called wog, exit winfax, re-start and move the message (still in the send with the lightning flash sign) to wog and then I delete wog.

There must be an easier way!
