let me confirm that i can use the current internal modem that came with my dell computer along with a US Robotics 56K External Modem FAX V.92 USR5686E (that i see for sale on ebay) concurrently with winfax.

how is winfax to know that i want to use both modems at the same time? if i remember correctly, you are supposed to select one modem for use with winfax.

“its drivers are only visible to Windows XP applications installed in the Virtual Windows XP machine.”

Can you please explain what you mean by this in simpler lanquage?

The windows 7 compatibility with winfax will determine a decision for my computer purchase.

    Thanks!

I will try your suggestion of first opening a send dialogue box.

    thanks so much!

What you are saying makes sense to me in regard to timing.

Okay, do you think if I were to determine if the error is program-specific this information would be of any help?

    version 10.03

It occurs often when printing from a program by Aspire Technologies called Quotewerks but I do believe it may also occur when printing from Outlook but I cannot remember for sure.

Yes, all 3 files are dated 12/12/02

thanks for your suggestion, I will try that.

And YES the “memory cannot be read” error is completely RESOLVED!!! (What a relief). Thank you so much for all your help on this. You have definitely targeted the problem by changing to CLASS 2.0 mode.

I was still getting to letting you know this but was waiting for some spare time to describe the other problem I’m experiencing in greater detail. The next problem is something I can deal with but why not strive for perfection. I will start a new post shortly for it….

this does seem like an idea except that the issue exists on a company computer that is not connected to the internet and thus does not have winfax tools installed on it. I therefore attempted to manually repair the logs by following steps provided by Symantec and I receive a message stating something like the database rebuild is aborted because of an application that is running. I believe there are no applications running including winfax.

from my recent observation, it only occurs when a page has completly transmitted. If I do remember correctly, it may have happened in the middle of a page’s trasmital but am not sure about this.

okay, i wonder if this would provide a clue as to why the “memory could not be read” error is occuring. I now realize exactly at which times in the fax sending process this error occurs. It will most often occur just when the fax sending status reads “negotiating”. Otherwise, it happens just when a complete page has transmitted (i.e. page 2 of 3 100% complete, or page 1 of 2 100% complete or even 3 of 3 100% complete)

thanks again for a most informative reply. Even after disabling startup programs, error still persists as well as the no page fix required to be used about once a day. Hence, we are very buggy here and I refuse to resort to another fax program. Are you confident you can troubleshoot the problem with remote access to my computer? I would be willing to pay for this service if you feel this would help.

    thanks!

how can I verify that the startup programs have been disabled? Even though I held down shift during my computer’s reboot, my security software has loaded properly. Shouldn’t my security software be a member of the startup group?

i thank you for your patience with this issue.

    Unfortunately the error still persists.

Since you have mentioned that this error can be caused by various reasons, do you suggest that a technician can resolve this issue by surveying my system as a whole?

    any other suggestions?????

    okay,

I opened the modem options in the control panel.

I see that I can “remove the modem” in the modems tab of the “phone and modem options” dialogue box or I can “disable” the device in the general tab of the modem properties dialogue box.

Are any of these methods what you have suggested for removing the existing modem prior to installing the new one?

If yes, which one of the above methods is recommended and do i still physically remove the modem chip from the interior of my computer?

If yes, how is this done – I have never operated on my computer before but am daring enough to do so

    thanks so much

If you have access to a new (different model) modem, you can try uninstalling any modem in Windows, turn off the PC and then physically remove the fax modem from the PC. Boot the new PC without the fax modem, so it initializes Windows again without the fax modem, now shut down the PC and install the new modem according the the directions of the manufacturer.

Okay, I have all my new modem equipment. Must I first uninstall the old modem and physically remove it from my computer?
If yes, can you please elaborate on how this is done? My existing modem is a Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc and OS is XP Pro.

    thanks!
