No Answer is reported by the modem, not WinFax (or any other fax software you might use to dial out and send a fax)

check your dialing settings, ensure you are dialing the proper long distance and area codes to make an outgoing connection. If you are in an office where you might need to dial a 9, or another number to make an outgoing call, make sure this is setup in your prefix dialing setup

if dialing is correct, then you may be experiencing a problem with the modem itself. Usually this can be related to the fax modem drivers installed (incorrect, or not updated for the proper operating system if a operating system upgrade was performed)

The dialing settings are correct. we do not have to tile 9 to get an outside line. This was an OLD modem we found in another computer. I will try replacing it.

Thank you very much for your help!!!

if the winfax drivers don’t appear as printers, then Winfax has not been properly installed.

you can’t attach, or send faxes (other than winfax cover pages) if the winfax printer driver does not exist.

your so F*ing helpfull. Thanks SO MUCH!!!

    So i guess i should try a re-install.

I’ve been threw HELL with this issue. The doctor that asked me to do this just bought a BRAND NEW computer for this. and it came with VISTA.

I had to uninstall everything (first i had to extract the hard drive and install xp from another computer.) then i had to play with the BIOS to get it to recognize the new HD, in reinstall all the drivers. And i just THOUGHT i was almost done.

looking back i guess i didn’t have to uninstall everything, because i thought it wouldn’t work with vista. because i was able to install it but i kept getting the “no carrier” message. Maybe it WOULD have worked with vista.

this explains why i can’t attach anything.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

i’m having this same problem. I select “print” but it only gives me the XP fax program not winfax. I will try to attach a txt file to see if that works. I don’t even see where the command is works IS to fax threw winfax.

Microsoft’s fax driver for Windows XP is named “Fax” and WinFax is named “WinFax” and “WinFax (Photo Quality)”

print to one of the WinFax drivers, and the WinFax Send Dialog should appear (if WinFax is properly installed and working)

it doesn’t. at all. I can load winfax, but it doesn’t seem that i can attach anything. Should i re-install?

I remember when i installed winfax, that i had to start the computer in safe mode to install it because the setup.exe file wouldn’t work.

this forum is a BIG help!!!!

if the faxes go through with Windows XP fax, then its probably a dialing setup issue specific in WinFax. Either you have something enabled that shouldn’t be, like a prefix or calling card settings, or something is missing, like an area code.

yes, that fixed everything. Thank you so much!!!

no carrier message can be a number of issues, the most common is the number isn’t being dialed properly, and you need to confirm that it is dialing. try dialing your cell phone, or another number so you can determine if the modem is actually dialing correctly with the proper prefix (if required) , area code, etc.

i mean i have been able to send a fax to the same number, when i DO NOT use winfax. I can send it threw windows XP, but when i open WINFAX it fails.

but i will try calling my cell phone.

calling myself is such a good idea, i didn’t think of that! I have been able to send a fax to the same fax number i’m dialing, but i’ll try that.

    Thanks again.
