we may have the same problem. My host is our winfax server, thats all its used for. we were having problems with it not disconnecting calls so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. It crashed during the uninstall process and never finished. I had to go through and search for files and registry entries and delete them because it would not let me install because of a “previous installation” Eventually I found the offending files and removed them. It’s worked great since with the exception of the client/host setup.
v3locityMemberInternet worm protection was on, I turned it off completely. I no longer get the RPC server issue but a “access is denied.please check the correct host name.” I get the same thing using the windows network or ip.
I’m using the latest version of tight vnc.v3locityMemberWhen I try to log on to the host from the client, it finds the host using the network or ip. Both computers are XP SP2. we are on the same subnet. I even went as far to turn the windows firewall off (we have a hardware firewall for our network anyway.) I can see the host but when I try to complete the connection I still get “setup cannot connect to Winfaxpro on winfxsvr (Reason: RPC Server is unavailable.) Check that that is the correct host name.”
What else can I do? I’m currently using VNC to see the host, but I’d much rather be able to use winfax setup in the client/host configuration. I have 1 computer dedicated to winfax and once I get this working everyone in our office should be able to access it without leaving their offices.
v3locityMemberI tried that today, still no luck. I still get the same RPC errors. Winfax seems to be working fine with the class 2.0 settings now. At least I’m receiving faxes, now if I could only do that from my computer….
v3locityMemberok, I found a modem in another computer that supports all 3 classes, I’ll switch it from class 2 to class 2.0.
Thanks so much for the help here. I really can’t believe that there really isn’t a better solution that I’ve found.
v3locityMemberWill all modems that support class 2 work better with winfax? The modem I’m currently using is class 1 only. Winfax locks up everytime someone connects at a low baud rate like 9600. It gets stuck receiving without ever receiving anything. I read that rockwell chipsets work better also. I’m currently using a zoom with a conex chipset.
