If you have re-installed WinFax and during the install the window where you enter the fax number disappears no matter what you try?
Then try this…(It worked for me)

    Follow these steps.

    Step: 1
First I uninstalled winFax Pro using Add / Remove from the control panel.

    Step: 2
Then I opened the Reg Editor and removed all traces of WinFax (Just do a
search for winfax and delete all entries until no more are found.)

I’m sure most people with this problem have got to this stage but still
received the Msg from winFax that an earlier version was detected on a
    reinstall.
It is this detection that causes the WinFax window to disappear when you try
to edit the Fax number, Voice number at installation or afterwards using the
Setting/user options. It also makes the screen disappear in the Receive
portion of settings if you try to change the number of rings before call is
    answered.

After WinFax is uninstalled it leaves 9 files behind, some of which are in
the Prefetch & Temp portions of Windows.
If you locate and delete the 9 files WinFax will install and run OK!
These files & how to locate & delete them are in step 3 below.

Note: Make sure you have followed Steps 1 & 2 before proceeding.

    Step: 3
    1. Open windows Explorer
    2. Click on search
    3. Click on All Files and Folders
    4. At the bottom of the search screen click on “More Advanced Options” &
    make sure that
the “Search System Folders”, “Search Hidden Files & Folders” and the
“Search Sub Folders” boxes are checked on.
    5. Make sure that you are searching the C: drive of your PC (you can set
this in the LOOK-IN field of the search window)
    6. In the search field (you may need to scroll up the window to see this)
type in WFX and hit Search.
    7. When the search is complete, locate these 9 files from the search results
    and DELETE them.

    wfxctl32.exe
    wfxgpf.log
    wfxmod32.exe
    wfxsnt40.exe
    wfxuhook.exe
    wfxdel.bat
    wfxhook.exe
    wfxseh32.dll
    wfhuhook.exe

Restart your PC and install WinFax.

This has fixed the problem for me and all is well now 🙂

If you try this will you let me know if it works for you?

There is a file that is detected by the WinFax install that prevents an install overtop a previous version/existing version. The file is WFXBOOT.INI. If you delete it, you should be able to reinstall.

    1. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files or Folders. The Find dialog box appears.
    2. From the Look In drop-down list, select the drive onto which you installed WinFax PRO/TalkWorks PRO.
    3. Check Include subfolders (if not already checked).
    4. In the Named field, type: wfxboot.ini and click Find Now. Windows displays all files matching the search criteria.
    5. Select the WFXBOOT.INI file and press Delete.
    6. Repeat these steps for the file Wfxinst.log .
    7. Close the Find dialog box.
    8. Install WinFax PRO/TalkWorks PRO.

I had winfax Pro 10.02 installed and during the search no WFXBOOT.INI was found.
After I uninstalled it I done the search again just to see if WFXBOOT.INI was created after the uninstall but again no WFXBOOT.INI was found???
I made sure I checked in the advanced search options to include all files and folders and all hidden files but still no WFXBOOT.INI file was found.
I wonder if that file was from version 9 or 10.00 ?
These were the files left behind after I uninstalled 10.02 and
after I deleted them I was able to reinstall 10.02 trouble free.

    wfxctl32.exe
    wfxgpf.log
    wfxmod32.exe
    wfxsnt40.exe
    wfxuhook.exe
    wfxdel.bat
    wfxhook.exe
    wfxseh32.dll
    wfhuhook.exe

wfxboot.ini may be left over from a failed install. If you successfully uninstalled, it probably was removed properly.

    Thanks for the additional info!
