States “winfax pro send dialog currently in use”, when it is not. Trying to fax using ACT 2000, Quick Fax option. Windows XP o/s, Winfax Pro 9.

When you get this error message, a WinFax component has failed to shut down properly.
reboot obviously should clear this problem but this is time consuming,
you can try this instead:

start WinFax Tools.
Click End All WinFax Tasks.
When prompted to close Port Starter or WfxSwtch choose No.
The window below should show the active fax tasks.
click Start Controller.
That should allow you to use WinFax again properly.
