For your future reference, the moderator and I tried to solve this problem in private through email. Actually he was the one who did! Genius! :;):

By looking at both sets of files, it appeared that version 10.03 Italian used the stato*.* files, and the English version used status*.* files, which was the set of files were used prior my installing WinFax PRO 10.03 italian.
Since nothing was working, I rebuilt the logs through the winfax applet and I suppose that created the new stato.* set of files with a totally wrong log, I do not know why. Changing the files name to have them corresponding to the log did not work. The problem to edit the stato3.wfx was that many entries used the same fax file, like 6379001.fxr and 6379002.fxr so I didn’t know which ones to change.

I passed the sets of files, English and Italian to our moderator to see if he could edit the stato.*log

The status*.* files looked correct, and the log entries were all correct. So to fix the problem he just renamed the status*.* files that contained all the correct fax file names to stato*.* and sent me the newly renamed set (I had thought to do that but I was sure that some files would have pointed to something that was there and I would have have a chain of error messages. So I did not even try).

I replaced my stato*.* files with those files and finally the fax pages appear properly.

I suggest always not to delete original old data until you are 100% sure that everythting works properly ๐Ÿ˜Ž and I suggest to keep always this forum in your bookmarks, if you plan to use winfax in the future! ๐Ÿ˜€

    P.S.: Moderator….Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

I could not find any reference to stato*.* files in Italian version, and this is all I could find on Symantec Italian site

    Lรขโ‚ฌ™Archivio messaggi predefinito in WinFax PRO 7.x, 8.x, 9.x e 10.x si chiama Status.wfb.

which confirm that the file should be called status even in Italian. I looked in the old Data folder of the previous installation and I do not have any stato.* files but that old verion was 10.02 italian. So either they were created when I tried to rebuild them through the maintainance utility or they were created by the upgrade to 10.03? Mistery of symantec programs  If I try to remove the Stato file, opening winfax will give me an error and recreate the db. So it is needed.
Anyway, I will post shortly both files for your reference..
Although I wonder how I can find out which lines to change after we see that a file name is repeated. Will it be a guessing thing or there will be a procedure?….

Tomorrow I will try to post a copy as you asked because now I do not have a hexeditor installed in the new disk yet. Will it be easy to find the right sequence of files to change then?

P.S.: I noticed one thing after what you told me… Muy Winfax is Italian. In the DATA folder I have Status.* and Stato.* files :O
I had installed once Winfax 10.02 in English and then when I installed 10.02 in Italian I kept the data files. So when I copied this folder into the new disk I also carried with me both versions. Is is correct to have a Status.* and a Stato.*? Or should I now have only the Italian version? I noticed that all are updated to a few days ago. I moved, just to try, all the status.* to a different folder keeping what I assume is Italian (stato.*) and I started winfax, but I haven’t noticed anything different. So for the moment, until further instruction I leave everything as it is.

if you look at any WinFax Receive log entry, receive log properties, you’ll see the associated files for that log entry. Like a 3 page received fax may look like, 0123001.fxr, 0123002.fxr, 0123003.fxr etc. Fax received files are always in the xxxxppp.fxr format x=number/letter p=page #

Now I look at the properties for the first fax on the list (and in the window below I visualize page A) and I read 1234001.fxr.

I look at the properties for the second fax on the list (and in the window below I visualize page A again) and I read 1234001.fxr.

I look at the properties for the third fax on the list (and in the window below I visualize ALWAYS page A) and I read 1234001.fxr.

Because for some reason, after moving the folders from the old installation into the new installation folder, I managed to fix everything, by changing whatever I thought I had logically to change, also within the files if needed, and everything is working except for this strange logging of the received fax. Because I don’t know where to change it.

In the same DATA forder I have many FXR files (those that I wanted to keep) all with different xxxxppp.fxr names, and those are the fax pages that do correspond to the faxes I see listed by Sender, Date etc in the upper right window of the RCVD log. (I opened them and I saw they were) but it is like having a DVD menu with titles but whatever you click you always see the same chapter, because all titles point to the same chapter, although all the other chapters ARE in the DVD…
It should be clear now… :;):

Thanks for all your explanations, I do appreciate your taking your time to help me. I am saving this message for future reference.

    …a 3 page received fax may look like, 0123001.fxr, 0123002.fxr, 0123003.fxr etc.

Yes, I had learned that, in fact I have renamed already whatever I could, visualizing the right pages, more or less. But the problem is with the received faxes: example…fax number 1 has three pages with 0123001.fxr, 0123002.fxr, 0123003.fxr, fax number 2 has 1 page with 0123001.fxr, and fax number 3 that has two pages points to 0123001.fxr, 0123002.fxr ๐Ÿ™ Got the situation? Same files and I see always only the same first page 0123001.fxr, not even , 0123002.fxr or 0123003.fxr

You need to rename the FXR files so they match the log entries.

No, I need to do the opposite. I need to rename the log entries so that they match the FXR files. I cannot rename according to the log because I would have many FXR’s with the same name.

This is a a Long and tedious task if you have many faxes

Don’t remind me, I have been doing it…

    ๐Ÿ™ Too late.
After all those attempts I deleted the wfa and I don’t think I can make a backup out of the old data folder…(also because the new disk is now F: and it is where I have winfax, while the old location was C:)

There is any way I can link all those orphan files to the log manually? After all it is now for ten faxes properly listed but with the wrong pages in the viewer, i. e. for all my rcvd faxes I see the same page.
If I can change that by manually setting the right location it is solved :p
