Adding a PBK phonebook file to FaxTalk

The FaxTalk software stores the data files (phonebooks, cover pages etc.) used by the program in a set of folders located in a central location on the drive based on recommended guidelines from Microsoft. Usually, this is the drive where the Windows operating system is installed. The default phonebook folder location is different depending on which Windows operating system you are using and your specific installation.

NOTE: In FaxTalk version 9, you can custom configure the data file folder within the program settings. See Tools, Options for the data folder location.

For Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows 2012/2008/2003 Server, and Windows Vista
When FaxTalk is installed on a Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, or Server operating system, the phonebook data folders for the FaxTalk software are located in the “ProgramData\Thought Communication\FaxTalk\User” folder. This folder is hidden by the operating system by default:

  1. To open and view the folder, from the desktop, click the Windows Orb or Start button and type:
    %ProgramData%\Thought Communications\FaxTalk\User
    and press Enter.
  2. Copy the phonebook .pbk file(s) we provided to you into this folder.
IMPORTANT: The filename(s) should be unique, there should be no other files in this folder with the same filenames. Do not overwrite any files in this folder or you may delete existing data.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. The phonebook should now appear in your FaxTalk software when opened.

For Windows XP or Windows 2000:

When installed on a Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system the phonebook data folder for the FaxTalk software are located in the “Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thought Communications\FaxTalk\User”  folder. The Application Data folder is hidden by the operating system by default.

  1. To open and view the folder, Click Start, Run and Type:
    %AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\Thought Communications\FaxTalk\User
    and press Enter.
