Repair or install missing FaxTalk printer in Windows.

If for some reason the FaxTalk printer is not installed in Windows, or you accidently deleted the printer, or it is not working properly you can manually install the printer using an automated method below, or the Add Printer option from the Windows operating system. An uninstall and reinstall of FaxTalk is usually not necessary.

These instructions apply to:

  • FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 10, 9, 8
  • FaxTalk Multiline Server 10, 9, 8
  • FaxTalk Messenger Pro 10, 9, 8

The printer installed will be named after the product you are using.

Additional FaxTalk Printer Driver Troubleshooting

Print a test page using the FaxTalk printer driver.

You can test the FaxTalk printer driver by printing a test page. This will confirm that the driver is functioning.

Press the Windows key + R. This will open the Run command line.

Type the following in the run command line prompt:

rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /p /n"PRINTER DRIVER NAME"

Replacing PRINTER DRIVER NAME with the name and version of the FaxTalk software you are using. For example:

FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 10
FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 9.0
FaxTalk Messenger Pro 10
FaxTalk Messenger Pro 9.0
FaxTalk Multiline Server 10
FaxTalk Multiline Server 9.0

To test the FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 10 printer driver, you would type:

rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /p /n"FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 10"

The FaxTalk printer properties dialog box will appear.

Click on the “Print Test Page” button.

The Windows test page dialog box should now appear, followed by a FaxTalk Send Dialog box, or FaxTalk Send Wizard dialog box. If the driver is working correctly, it should include the test page within the fax (and a cover sheet if selected)

NOTE: You can also open the printer properties dialog box for FaxTalk by clicking on the Printer Properties option for the FaxTalk printer. This will be found in Control Panel/Windows Settings, Devices/Printers & Scanners.

Missing FaxTalk printer icon in Windows

If the FaxTalk printer driver is working and appears in all your applications via the print option, but does not appear as a visible printer icon in the Control Panel/Devices and Printers then verify that the following Windows services are set to a manual startup type. If any of these services are set to disabled, the FaxTalk printer icon may not appear in the devices and printers:

Device Setup Manager (service name="DsmSvc")
Device Install Services (service name="DeviceInstall")

These services should both be set to a startup type: “Manual“.

You may need to reboot your machine for the FaxTalk printer icon to appear.

Repair the FaxTalk installation.

If the FaxTalk printer driver does not install or function properly following any of the solutions above, try using the Modify option from the Add/Remove Programs. Click your FaxTalk product in the Add/Remove Programs/Apps option. Do not click Remove. Click Modify, then click the Repair option on the next window.

IMPORTANT If you uninstall and reinstall, it is recommended you use the FaxTalk Backup Tool prior to the uninstall and backup your FaxTalk data to a FaxTalk Archive backup file (FTA). This is a precaution to any possible data loss. The reinstall will require you enter your original SERIAL NUMBER for the product you are installing and you will require your setup installation file.
