I have tried rebooting the Host Winfax Pro and even the computer itself, but I get the same results.

OK, it worked. I appreciate it very much….Thank you.

Do you know why this happens and how I can prevent it? It was working fine and then it stopped working.

    Thank you again. 😀

Ok, those errors are likely due to a problem with the DCOM WinFax.Attachment settings for Anonymous Logon. It looks like you may have to RE-APPLY this setting:

Follow these steps on the HOST computer ONLY (WinFax PRO 10.03, Windows XP SP3 or SP2)

Enable Anonymous Logon users to have remote activation access to the WinFax.Attachment DCOM component

From the Start menu, click Settings > Control Panel.
If using the Classic View, double-click Administrative Tools. Otherwise, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click Administrative Tools.
    Double-click Component Services.
From the Console Root, open Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config.
From the menu, click View > Detail.
From the DCOM Config list, right-click WinFax.Attachment, and click Properties.
On the Security tab, in the Launch and Activation Permissions group, select Customize, and click Edit.
Click Add, type ANONYMOUS LOGON and click OK.
Choose ANONYMOUS LOGON, and select Allow on the Remote Activation entry. All other boxes should be deselected.
Click OK, and then click OK again.
Close the Component Services window and the Administrative Tools window

I checked and these settings are all exactly the way, so I did not have to edit anything.
Or do you want me to delete ANONYMOUS LOGON and close the window and add it again.
    Would that work?
Or could it be something else?

I already restarted Controller on the host and clients, restarted the host and clients, but it still won’t let the clients connect.

I did not have any of the problems you mentioned in your post:
    ” Problems could be:
    – If you have logged in the Host with a different user, then you may receive this error.
    – If you made any WinFax PRO configuration changes on the Host, such as Tools, Setup, Fax Sharing Host.
    – Updated to Service Pack 2 or 3 (Windows XP)

To troubleshoot: On Host machine, check Event Viewer and see if there are any DCOM related error messages. (Usualy this will show up with a Red X )”

I did check the Event Viewer, and under System there are many DCOM Errors with event numbers 10021 or 10016, where some say Anonymous Logon and others say N/A, starting yesterday, which is when the problem started.

How do I fix the problem?

    Thanks 🙁

Did all that and it still didn’t work unless the firewall is turned off.
    Any other solutions?

Success!! But I cannot leave the firewall off on the host and the clients. How do I modify the firewalls so I don’t get the RPC messages and are able to turn them on?

The file faxmng32.exe was corrupted. I replaced it with a good one and now it works.

    Thank you

I did follow the instructions on the document. When I had upgraded to 10.04 client fax sharing said “access is denied”. I reinstalled 10.02 and went through the instructions in the document again and now I get “RPC server is unavailable”.

I did what you said and reinstalled Winfax Pro 10.02, configured the changes manually on the host and the client, and now when I try to configure the fax sharing client, I get the message: “Setup cannot connect to Winfax Pro on xxx(Reason: RPC server is unavailable). Check that this is the correct host name.”

I went ahead and made sure that Wfxping.exe was under My Network (subnet) only in Windows Firewall Exceptions, restarted the computer, but I still get the same error message.

    What am I doing wrong?

I have Winfax Pro 10.02. The file is in the folder, but when I try to open it, very rapidly, an installation box with a progress gauge comes up, but it is superseded immediately by the error message.

I downloaded the file you so kindly linked me to, but it didn’t change anything. Do I have to reinstall the software?
