Heres an update: I was having daily problems so taken your advice I bought a brand new serial external modem by zoom with a conexant chipset, your favorite right? I bought a new xp pentium 4 service pack 3 with 504 MB of Ram. Phone line used now is on verizon fiber optic instead of time warner VOIP line before. The first week I felt all the trouble was gone and was flawless. the next week I saw 1 time it did not give handshake and sent the same fax twice. The hewart Packard I bought at wal mart for 29.99 always works flawlessly without reduceing speed to 9,600 bps or lower exept when other fax requires slow speed.(reduceing speed says to me there is a problem and were just putting me on crutches rather than solveing what is creating the problem) But after spending many hundreds of dollars I am suprised when I saw 1 time in 2 weeks it sends same fax twice. I would consider paying online live support if you think it can be fixed so handshaking would be 100 percent reliable. I send alot of faxes so I heard before alot of complaining from others that I have sent the same fax up to 8 times right in a row.

Thankyou. I understand I may go off topic of discussion and you corrected it by taking my question to a new post like you did here but I do wish I would have received email to new post you created answering my question. The email directed me to old post without any answers. Small suggestion and my apology for going off topic.

That computer today crashed on me and BOOT NOT ACCESSIBLE. I was sick! Let me EMPHATICALLY say if it was not for you I would have lost alot of business information and money because you told me last month how I could upload all the information in winfax from one computer to another. The computerman was able to remove the hard drive from crashed computer and temporarily download winfax program and all its data to my new computer. THANKYOU!,YOU SAVED ME TWO YEARS OF INFORMATION..
Currently I now have an xp, again I owe you thanks because to my knowledge before was winfax would not run on anything above windows 2000. The computer I got is a Pentium 1V, xp with service pack 3. Emachine model# T1862.
    1. About last problem everytime computer restarts it takes 25 seconds to answer first call. This new computer now answers first call when starts up in two seconds.-Problem now solved.
    2. After installing your top#1 pick for serial external modem with winfaxpro I have not had one problem sending or receiving for a week now including when it was in the other computer that crashed and would not even boot up. So knock on wood-Problem now solved.
    3. I had problem with crashed computer every time I closed sidebar using thumbtack a received fax would disapear but if you restarted the controller the fax would reappear. You told me to try lowering color bit and parcels if I cant find a update to graphic drivers. Since I could not I tried what you said and solved it with other crashed computer. However this new xp computer did not do it when first installed, then several hours later I went online updateing windows I noticed afterwards it started happening again. I lowered the color and parcels and it stoped. I updated the graphics through Intels website but no luck when I increased the parcel the problem returned. Any suggestions?
QUESTION #1: Can I uninstall live advisor and live update or is it better to leave it be?
QUESTION #2: I am getting another xp in a day or two backing me up in case of another computer crash again. One of the two will be for internet and this one will only go on internet to activate winfaxtools and windows updates and send/receive faxes. I want to weekly take thumbdive and be able to go to another computer and update new faxes and phonebook logs without it taking hours. I copied the symantec file to this new computer but had to uninstall winfax first to install symantec file then reinstall winfaxall over again…is there a way to update to computers with winfax without uninstalling winfaxpro from computer using a thumbdrive?

The message did appear unable to display the animated fax machine and I clicked ok as you mentioned. I restarted computer and started up windows media player before opening winfax. I did this twice just to make sure. there is a noticeable difference. one time took 15 seconds and another time took 10 seconds instead of 25 seconds when you dont start media player.
I have System windows 2000 5.00.2195 service pack 4. Computer x86 family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 AT/AT Compatible. 523,764 KB RAM. Appears I have plenty of memory and disc space

Your default send log folder is 5% full.
Your default receive log folder is 11% full.
Received Fax (*.FXR files) slots available (Maximum of 10,000) : 8898
Send Fax slots (.FXD Files) available (Maximum of 10,000) : 9472
Cover Page Text files (*.CVR files) total count is : 117
Also testing animated fax machine: After renamed file and restarted computer/winfax, clicked manual receive it took 25 seconds to appear on screen to answer first call.

its the animated fax machine that does not appear when taking the first call when computer starts up. computer/winfax can be on for several hours and still happens when first call comes. its was not always like this but I never had 1700 phonebook listings before either. I have read forum abit, others make my phonebook look small, I believe I read theres no limit or 10,000.00 is the limit?
Back to the animated Fax Machine, I was thinking about that before of clicking manual receive to see if it helps. Today I restarted the computer and winfax, then click manual receive as you suggested. it took 25 seconds for animated fax machine to appear on screen to answer call. after cancelling and retrying it a second time it appears in one second. is there a folder in winfax for this animated fax machine that can be examined to see if its working properly or settings that can be made so it does not take 25 seconds to answer first call after starting up?

Let me explain when I said before and I quote: There are still sometimes the modem goes into negotiating when sending fax but does not go into training end quote…heres what I should have also mentioned. This problem happened on my time warner phone line. when I switch and plug phone line into verizon(I have 2 phone lines) it sends the fax out. the time warner phone line comes in through a cable. Does this mean it is a VOIP line? I believe I read in forum the VOIP lines are not preference of choice. this is question 1.
my second question: I am having problem with call status answering fax when it starts up. When phone rings I hear computer going to work to bring it up but even on the 4th.ring it still has not appeared on the screen. I have to pick up call on 4th. ring so it does not go to voice message. afterwards generally pops up on screen on first ring. I dont know how to tell the computer to load the call status when I start winfax. Can you help?
On a different note the new modem you recommended works flawlessly on verizon or so far as I have seen. I am cancelling time warner phone line that I think is VOIP line.

I finally found model 3049C at the computer store but it wasnt easy. It says model 3049C on the bottom of modem itself but not on the box or trying to order it online. I do see a improvement. There are still sometimes the modem goes into negotiating when sending fax but does not go into training. ??

I have not bought the xp yet but is my plan later. I am choosing first to get a external serial modem(model 3049C) your first preference of choice for modems with winfaxpro. I feel this may help my send and receive issues the most right now, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I do want to thankyou. I was missing log entries when I click receive arrow down to show other folders then close it using the arrow that points to the right(looks like a thumbtack) and you suggested lowering screen color from 32 to 16 bit. at first there was no change but last night I lowered the color parcels down to 800-600 or 600-800(forgive me I forget exact number) I now cannot reproduce the problem anymore no matter how hard I try. I have tried my computer savy friends but they tried and failed. All in all I want to publically say THANKYOU! I would never had been able to solve this without your help. As I am continuing to expand winfax it is becoming obvious to me without this forum and your support I may not have a job today as I depend on winfaxpro for my work. You have been patient, kind and very professional with me even with my lack of computer knowledge. Giving credit when credit is due I want to say to you: THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!

I cannot find model 3049C. Just 3049. I just want to make sure I buy the right one. when I click model 3049 from the link of a couple modems you sent before it shows the following when I start to buy it:
Zoom External V.92/V.44 Fax Modem (Conexant) Model: 3049-00-00DG
is model 3049-00-00DG the same as you said was model 3049C(dont mean to be stupid, just want to be sure I buy your first preference of choice for modem with winfaxpro).

The yes and no question before let me explain. What I meant is if you yourself needed to replace modem to use with winfaxpro is or would the link of couple modems you sent is the zoom model 3049-V.92 56K External Serial Modem be your first preference of choice? if not and you had to pick just one modem right now can you send me link for the one you would choose for yourself.
Secondly is there a external serial modem out there that could answer fax when computer is off and input it in winfax when computer starts up?

I noticed when the first time receiving a fax after controller and winfax fully open whenever it takes first call it takes 20 to 30 seconds for winfax call status showing a picture of a fax machine to appear on screen. after the first time then it appears simutanusly with the next calls. Is this normal?

Going by your first choice and the link to look at modem would you review your link on zoom model 3049-V.92 56K External Serial Modem. is this windows 2000 compatible and would this be your first choice now in a windows 2000 or xp?-If you can please answer yes or no. Also I have never used an external modem with winfax so I have more than one question:
    1. Will winfax recognize new modem, Do I need to hold down shift key and click property in modem basically in short reconfigure winfax modem and thats it?
    2. will the external serial modem be able to receive faxes when power is on and when winfax controller closes or computer is off?
    3. What changes can I expect?

I am confused because time and time again you tell me external modem is better than internal modem and now you say dont use it unless you have no other option. Can you clarify..
    the 1.HiRO H50113 V.92 56K External USB Data/Fax/Voice Modem, RoHS Compliance
it has a Conexant chipset. this modem has a chipset.
Can you be more specific or better yet send me link for external modem that would work well with winfax
