what happens when you turn auto receive on? does it turn off , or does it remain on until you exit WinFax and when you restart it is off again?

what are the settings under Receive setup? is there a check for automatic receive? what are the # of rings listed?

you might want to try this:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT….ocument

but, rather than following all the directions, just follow the steps under

    1. Restart in Safe mode
    2. Delete temporary files

and just double-click WTNSETUP.EXE from the WinFax directory to begin the configuration (since you’ve already installed WinFax)

once wtnsetup runs ok and you go through the entire setup, reboot Windows normally and then try running WTNSETUP again and see if the setup works.

Thanks, but none of that helped. I know WinFax pretty well, having used it for 10 years. I know that last time this happened, it was resetting the registry that helped, but now it’s not a supported product by Symantec.

Any ideas on how to do the registry settings?

What version of WinFax PRO and Windows are you using?

there are a lot of registry settings in WinFax. Finding which specific registry setting (if any) that is corrupt depends exactly where the problem exists. Usually, running WTNSETUP will rebuild any missing settings. It may not properly repair an existing setting that is corrupt. The maintenance tool in WinFax PRO 9/10 does allow you to “reset” some registry keys.

Do you have the printer driver installed? I assume you do, since you wouldn’t be able to print to WinFax in any other application.

What happens when you click on FILE, PRINT and select WinFax as the printer? Does the Send Dialog box appear? Does only the cover page (if selected) appear with the printed document missing from the view in the Send dialog box?

do you have the WinFax PRO printer drivers installed? you should have the WinFax PRO driver and the WinFax PRO Photo Quality driver installed with WinFax PRO 10.0x

If you don’t have the drivers installed, then with WinFax PRO 10 you can use the Maintenance tool to reinstall the drivers.

If you have the printer drivers installed, then here are some suggestions:

    1. In WinFax Setup, go to “Call Status and Controller” option.
Disable *uncheck* the option “Allow sending and receiving when logged off” option.
    click Apply, then OK.
Exit the WinFax Controller if it is active (right click the yellow icon in the system tray and Exit)

    2. The WinFax Service (for Windows XP/2000/NT only)

The WinFax Service answers calls when Windows is logged off. If you are using Windows NT/2000/XP, you should also turn off the WinFax Service. This can be done in the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. (You can also do this by clicking START, RUN and typing SERVICES.MSC and click Run.)

Locate the “TalkWorks PRO” or “WinFax PRO” service, double-click and change the startup setting from “Automatic” setting to “Manual”. Also click on STOP to stop the service. Reboot the computer and then go back to the Services in the Control Panel and verify that the WinFax or TalkWorks service is set to “Manual” and is NOT started.

Note: You can turn this back to Automatic after you’ve resolved any problems with WinFax if you want to receive or send faxes while the computer is logged off in Windows XP/2000/NT.

Now, Start WinFax PRO controller first and try to see if you can print to the WinFax PRO printer driver correctly.

you should uncheck it, then reboot and go back and check it again. Reboot and then try again.

If that does not work, when does it hang? during which install screen?

You need to follow the steps in this document, ignoring the 10.04 update option. (since that does not apply to WinFax PRO 9.0x)

Also, in Zone Alarm within PROGRAM CONTROL:
FAXMNG32.EXE should be set (checkmark) TRUSTED Access.
WFXCTL32.EXE should be set (checkmark) under TRUSTED and INTERNET access for both ACCESS and SERVER.

no, Symantec has no plans of development of WinFax PRO. They announced the product is discontinued.

We have contacted the developer of Snappy Fax, and their product is Vista compatible. It has a lot of features, and it is comparable to WinFax. You can try it for 30 days to see if you like it. Snappy Fax

make sure “wfxsnt40.exe” process is active
    (found in %windir%system32wfxsnt40.exe)

and wfxswtch.exe is also active process.
(for Windows XP only using WinFax PRO 10.02/10.03 and 10.04)

if these two apps are not running, you’ll get this error message. If you continue to get this error, start the controller first “wfxctl32.exe” in the WinFax directory (after verifying that the above two apps are active)
before printing to the WinFax PRO printer driver.

also confirm “wfxctl32.exe” is NOT set to compatibility mode!

    check this topic

    http://www.getfaxing.com/cgi-bin….install

If uninstall fails, and you can’t uninstall using Add/Remove Programs and a reinstall fails because of the message “Cannot install until you uninstall previous version”. Here is what you can do so you can re-install WinFax PRO without the need to go through manually erasing those registry keys.

Search for file(s) WFXUNIST.ISU, WFXBOOT.INI and WFXINST.LOG. If any of these are found, delete them.

Now, reboot the PC and reinstall WinFax PRO. The “previous install” message should no longer appear.

There is no need to delete existing WinFax/Delrina registry keys, because the install will recreate any registry keys that are missing or incomplete.

Once you reinstall, you should be able to perform an uninstall if you wanted to remove the program completely.

In WinFax, you have to export your phonebook data into another type of file that Outlook can import. For example, a comma seperated data file.

Once you’ve exported the data in WinFax to the proper file. You then need to import the data using Outlook 2003. Choose the type of file you created (by export) in WinFax, and then proceed with the import process in Outlook 2003.
