what version of WinFax do you have installed ?

I doubt it, I’m not sure when the recurring fax feature was included with WinFax, if it was included after version 9 then chances are the feature is not available in the SDK. The SDK was implemented in version 8.0, and there have been three revisions since then. The last revision was for version 9 I believe.

As for the file format, unfortunately that is not available publically.

There is no option with DDE to return the status of a fax.

Do you already have a printer installed in Windows? Try installing any HP LaserJet type printer driver in Windows (even if you don’t have one) and then try installing WinFax.

If that doesn’t work, see this document

For Windows XP your only solution is version 10.0 or 10.01

Do you have version 10.00 instead? You’ll have to use 10.00 or 10.01. Unfortunately, that is the only solution at this time.

WinFax PRO 10 was designed and developed well before the introduction of Windows Xp. It wasn’t until version 10.02 build of WinFax that they officially supported Windows XP.

Also the error you mention about the cover page isn’t SDK/XP incompatibility, it can be fixed by renaming the COVER.db file.

Let us know if the macro actually runs properly under Windows XP

The only way to get it is to complain about your existing SDK functionality / macros are not working properly, then they will mention the 10.03 release. Its called cost cutting. Back in the Delrina era, they issued a replacement CD to every single registered user. We requested a replacement via email, we were told to call a number (long waits) and (most likely) pay for the CD to explain again why we wanted the 10.03 version. As if you had to meet some sort of requirement to be able to receive 10.03.

To solve this problem, delete the following files:

    Wfxboot.ini
    Wfxinst.log
The shortcut to the Configuration Wizard in the Startup folder
Wtnsetup.exe (or shortcut to Wtnsetup.exe) in the ..WindowsPrefetch folder (if it exists)

To locate and delete these files:
    1. Close the WinFax Controller.
    2. Click Start.
    3. Click Search.
    4. Make sure that “Look in” is set to “All drives” or to (C:).
    5. Click the “Advanced Options” arrow.
    6. Make sure that “Search system folders”, “Search hidden files and folders”, and “Search subfolders” are all checked.
    7. Click All files and folders.
    8. In the “All or part of the file name box” type–or copy and paste–the following:

    Wfxboot.ini
    Wfxinst.log

    9. Click Search. The results are displayed. For each of these files (if found), right-click the file, and then click delete. Confirm the deletion, if prompted.
    10. Close the Search dialog box.
    11. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder:

    C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup

    12. Locate and delete the shortcut to the Configuration Wizard file, if it exists. Confirm the deletion, if prompted.
    13. Navigate to the ..WindowsPrefetch folder. If the folder does not exist, then skip to step 14. If the folder exists, then delete any instances of Wtnsetup.exe or shortcuts to Wtnsetup.
    14. Close the Explorer window.
    15. Restart Windows.

If the problem persists, then remove the reference to Wtnsetup.exe from the Run key in the registry.

To remove the reference in the registry:

CAUTION: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. Read the document How to back up the Windows registry before proceeding.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type regedit and then click OK. The registry editor appears.
    3. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

    4. In the frame on the right, right-click the entry for WTNSetup.exe.
    5. Click Delete.
    6. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

    7. In the frame on the right, right-click the entry for WTNSetup.exe.
    8. Click Delete.
    9. Close the Registry Editor.
    10. Restart Windows.

If the problem still continues, then completely remove WinFax PRO from the system. Reinstall the program with all programs and utilities closed

Do you have any printers installed on this PC? Is it WIndows 2000 or Windows XP?
try installing a HP Laserjet printer (even if you don’t have one!) from the Control Panel/Printers icon.
once you’ve installed the printer driver, try installing WinFax again.

Does the receive log show a completed checkmark indicating a successfull receipt of a fax? and when you double-click on the fax in the receive log, does it appear on the Viewer as a blank page?

Ok, now that we have a descriptive error message, we can try this :

    (Windows 2000/Windows XP)

    1. Exit the installation. Reboot system (do not start in Safe Mode)
    2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click Services.
    4. Double-click the Print Spooler service, change the Startup type to Automatic, and then click Start. The Spooler service is started.
    5. Click OK, close the Services window, and then close the Control Panel.
    6. Shut down and restart the computer.
    7. Restart the installation of WinFax PRO.

    Hi,
there should be a module name with the error message. If not, what other programs have you running in the background? Have you tried installing WinFax in SAFE mode ??

    1. Cancel the installation
    2. Verify that Windows is set to show all files.
    3. Create a temporary folder on the C drive, such as C:wfx.
    4. Copy the WinFax folder from the WinFax CD to the C:wfx folder.
    5. Restart the computer in Safe mode.
    6. Delete Temp Files
    7. Delete the WinFax folder that was created during the failed installation.
    8. Run the Setup program.

Check this link for details on starting Windows in safe mode and installing WinFax in safe mode.
