Couple things to check (if doesn’t work, or does not apply, skip to next step):

    1. remove configuration wizard

To remove the Configuration Wizard icon from the Startup group:

After you reboot and the setup appears,
Click Cancel in the Configuration Wizard, and then click Yes to confirm the cancellation.
Right-click Start, click Open, and then double-click Programs.
Double-click StartUp, select the Configuration Wizard icon, and then press Delete to delete it from the StartUp folder.
Close all open windows, and then restart the computer.

    2. If that does not work, follow these steps:
WTNSETUP starts everytime you boot Windows

you can add all your FXD files as attachments, this will at least allow you some method to organize and view them.
If you go into the attachments, you can Add an attachment (the FXD files). Here you can select multiple attachments to add (use control key to select more than one)

here are instructions on how to do this:

you cannot install WinFax PRO 10.04 overtop 10.02. This will cause problems. The 10.04 patch update was designed for updating version 10.03 only.
I would suggest an uninstall, and then reinstall of WinFax PRO 10.02

the status files are your logs, WinFax loads these files upon startup so it can generate a list of send, received and faxes currently in the outbox. The Logs point to the locations/filenames of the fax files.

By deleting the status*.* files, you’ve actually deleted your logs. You stil have your faxe files, but they are orphaned because the are missing the status*.* files.

Do you have any back up of your STATUS*.* files? because if you do not, you cannot import just FAX files into WinFax to generate a new log.

You can however import “Attachments”, and have all your faxes (FXS, FXR, FXM) be viewed as attachments. This doesn’t work for cover pages.

Hey JohnD, how about posting the link to that post. I have the same problem and I can’t find it. Or at least tell me what the “Main Forum Page” is. They all say “support”.

done. but links don’t always work because messages are moved/deleted etc. all the time.

Do you have the latest drivers for this modem? I believe they were released in September 2006 according to Modemsite.com

I would try that first. Check with the manufacturer of your PC if the modem was bundled with that. They may have the proper download so you can update the modem drivers for Windows XP

does it still give you the message that TCP/IP is not installed , and that you need to install it first before Fax Sharing will work?

Just to confirm, you should have TCP/IP (TCP/IPv4) installed in Vista

I did try the methods suggested and still no change. I just need to figure out a way to get the TCP/IP protocal to allow the winfax share program to connect. I can even ping the fax and it sees it but does not allow me to connect.

I want to say I’m sorry but the above solution still does not work. I still receive the error about the host name.

try running “wtnsetup.exe” from the WinFax directory. This will reconfigure WinFax PRO.

Oki Doki I got the fax to work 😀

The patch didn’t cause any problem at all.
The WTNSETUP.EXE did cuse some problems as it didn’t find my fax so I had to selct a fax from the list (took the AT&T one) after selecting a few wrong options it now works fine and the sending of faxes works fine too.

    Thaks for your help.

    cheers
